Creating a volunteer event in Millie is a great way to rally your coworkers around a cause. Whether it’s a company-wide day of service, a local volunteer outing, or a virtual opportunity, Millie makes it easy to set it all up.
Here’s how to build your event step by step:
Step 1: Event Basics
Start by entering the foundational details of your event:
- Event Name – Give it a clear, engaging title
- Image – Add a photo that represents the event or cause
- Short Description – A quick summary that appears in previews (this box is rich text enabled!)
- Optional Link – Add a link to a resource or external registration if needed
Step 2: Location & Time
- Remote, Hybrid, or In-Person – Choose whether the event is virtual, has a physical location, or both!
- Note: Any events listed as “Hybrid” will still require a physical address, but will show up as “remote friendly” in the database
- Address – If in-person, include a full address
- Date & Time – Add the date, start time, and end time
- Ongoing Option – For events that run over a longer period or have flexible timing
- Max Volunteers – Limit the number of sign-ups if necessary
- Shifts (Optional) – Add multiple time blocks if your event runs in parts
Step 3: Volunteer Tracking
- Toggle on Track Volunteer Hours if you'd like employees to receive credit for their time
- Millie will log hours automatically for those who sign up and attend
Step 4: Nonprofit Info
- Search and select the nonprofit partner you'll be supporting
- Choose a Category from the NTEE code list that best fits the cause (e.g., Education, Environment, Health)
Step 5: Tags & Filters
Help employees discover your event more easily by tagging it with relevant filters:
- Great for Groups
- Great for Individuals
- One-Time
- Repeat Engagement
- Skills-Based
Step 6: Group Support (Optional)
- Add one or more Groups this event is tied to (e.g., ERGs, Offices, Teams)
- The event will automatically appear on that group’s page
Step 7: Event Details
Share helpful event-day guidance in the Event Details section. Example:
We’re meeting at the location at 8:45. Wear your company T-shirts and come ready to make an impact! Lunch afterwards for anyone who can stay.
Step 8: Event Lead & Contact Info
Designate a point person for questions or coordination:
- Event Lead – Who is leading the event from your company?
- Contact Info – Include an email or phone number for day-of communication
Step 9: Activity Feed (Optional)
Turn on the Activity Feed if you'd like volunteers to share photos, comments, or updates during and after the event.
Step 10: Save as Draft or Publish
Click Create Draft to save your event for later editing, or publish it right away so employees can start signing up.
Once published, your event will be discoverable in the Volunteer tab and on any relevant Group pages!
