Your company match is like a giving superpower: it multiplies the good you do! π¦Έ Here's how to read your match, check what you have left, and what happens when you hit a limit.
π The key terms
Term | What it means | Example |
Match ratio | How much your company gives for every dollar you donate | 1:1 means a $50 gift is matched with $50. 2:1 means it's matched with $100! |
Personal match cap | The most your company will match for you in one budget year | A $1,000 cap covers up to $1,000 in matches for the year |
Match left | How much of your personal cap is still up for grabs this year | Shown in purple at the top of your Wallet π |
Company budget | The total your company has set aside for everyone's matches this year | Shared by everyone in the program |
Budget year | The 12-month period your cap applies to | Resets automatically each year on the start of your companyβs unique fiscal year |
Your company's program details, including ratio and cap usually live on your home dashboard under Program Details and in your company's giving policy.
π How to check your remaining match
- π In your Wallet: the purple Match Left balance shows what's left for this year.
- β Before you donate: every nonprofit profile shows whether it's eligible for your company's match and how much of your match is still available. No surprises!
- π In Past Activity: each donation shows its match status, like Approved or Limit Reached.
π¦ What the match statuses mean
- π’ Matched by your company: this nonprofit is on your company's approved list. Your match is requested automatically when you donate. Easy peasy!
- π‘ May or may not be matched: an admin needs to take a look at this nonprofit. You can click Request Match first and wait for the official thumbs up, or donate now and let the review happen afterward. You'll get an email either way. π¬
- π΄ Restricted: your company doesn't match donations to this nonprofit. You're still welcome to donate; it just won't be matched.
π What happens when you reach a limit
- You reach your personal cap: amazing work! π Donations above your cap aren't matched for the rest of the budget year, and your Wallet will show that you've hit your match limit. If a donation is larger than your remaining match, the organization will receive a partial match for however much is left.
- Your company's overall budget runs out: new matches can't be approved until the budget is topped up or the new budget year begins.
π« Things that don't count toward a match
- Donations made with Millie gift card funds π
- Donations to restricted nonprofits
β¨ Special cases
- π Campaign matches: some campaigns come with a special ratio (like 2:1 for a day of giving). If a campaign has a separate budget, those matches don't count against your personal cap, so you can still be matched after you've used your annual match!
- π₯ Different rules for different groups: your company can set different caps or ratios by department, region, or role. If your numbers look different from a coworker's, this may be why.
- π Giving Madness: donations made through a Giving Madness bracket with matching turned on are approved automatically.
