Curious how employees find your organization on Millie, or what you can do to boost your visibility and funding? Here's everything nonprofits commonly ask us about discovery, promotion, and making the most of the platform.
🧠How do employees discover and choose charities on Millie?
There are generally two routes.
- Employer promotion. If a company already partners with your organization, they may choose to highlight you to their employees in their top nonprofit list on the home dashboard, or as part of an internal campaign or initiative.
- Self search. Employees can search our database based on location, interest, or cause type, and this is typically how most discovery happens.
Your profile is boosted in search results the more complete it is, as well as by how often you refresh your volunteer opportunities.
Tip: search visibility also depends on knowing what names people use to look for you. If your organization goes by more than one name, or you've noticed people searching under a different term, let us know at team@milliegiving.com so we can work with our Engineering team to add it to our search algorithm.
📊 How does Millie determine which charities are surfaced or promoted?
In our search database, nonprofits are surfaced under categories, sub-categories, and by location proximity, and are boosted higher up the results page based on profile completeness (see above).
We also build campaign templates and nonprofit collections as inspiration resources for our customers. If there's a specific day of giving that resonates with your cause, or a collection you'd like to be part of, we're happy to add you.
We don't pick favorites: we rotate our collection lists and campaign template nonprofits regularly so we can give visibility to as many organizations in our database as possible. Let us know where you see your organization fitting in terms of cause area at team@milliegiving.com, and we'll look for the right opportunity to include you!
💰 What does the typical income journey look like for a nonprofit?
Fund disbursement is typically driven by individual employee giving and matching through Millie, as this is our most common funding path.
Company campaigns and grants are also leveraged by many of our customers, with those decisions made at the company level and often tied to nonprofits they partner with directly.
Looking ahead, Millie is launching a formal grants application feature in early 2027, where nonprofits can apply and share their cause and funding needs directly with companies using Millie's Grants functionality. This will be another strong avenue for visibility.
🚀 What can we do to increase engagement and donations through Millie?
Building on the above, we'd recommend:
- Keep your profile fully built out, and your volunteer opportunities as up to date as possible.
- Add remote volunteer opportunities where you can. These tend to perform especially well with our customer base.
- Lean on existing corporate partners. Reach out to any companies you already work with that also use Millie, since they can choose to highlight your organization in their own campaigns and initiatives.
We're not able to share our customer list directly, but any partnerships you build on your end can absolutely be reflected on the platform if that company is part of Millie.
✅ Anything else beyond claiming and completing our profile?
Outside of what's covered above, we'd recommend:
- Claim your Percent Impact Foundation / Goodstack profile
- Set up your payment details, so funds reach you as quickly as possible as donations come in
If you've already done both of these along with fully building out your profile, you've covered everything we'd typically recommend to a nonprofit getting set up on Millie!
