Millie offers multiple ways for employees to make donations and receive their corresponding company match. Whether you prefer to give directly in-platform or have already donated elsewhere, we’ve made the process simple and flexible.
Below are the three primary ways to donate through Millie for matching eligibility.
1️⃣ Donate Directly Through the Millie Platform (Recommended)
This is the easiest and most seamless way to give (see our full article on this process here)
What You’ll See Before You Donate
Before completing your donation, Millie provides helpful visibility so you can make informed decisions:
- ✅ Match Eligibility Status — You’ll see whether your company has approved matching for that specific nonprofit.
- 💰 Remaining Match Budget — You’ll see how much of your personal match balance is still available.
- 📋 Any applicable program guidelines or restrictions.
This transparency ensures there are no surprises after you give.
How It Works
- Log into your Millie account
- Search for any eligible nonprofit (we support over 7M global nonprofits)
- Select the organization
- Confirm match eligibility and view your remaining match balance
- Enter your donation amount
- Choose your payment method
- Submit your donation
That’s it! If your company offers matching, the match request is automatically triggered — no additional steps required.
Why This Is Recommended
- Automatically submits your match request
- Provides real-time match eligibility visibility
- Shows your remaining match balance before you give
- Fastest processing time
- No additional forms required
2️⃣ Donate Outside of Millie & Submit an Offline Donation Form
If you’ve already donated directly to a nonprofit — either:
- In person
- Through the nonprofit’s website
- At an event
- Via another giving platform
You can still receive a company match by submitting an Offline Donation Form in Millie (learn how here).
This is also the recommended donation flow for nonprofits or specific causes that operate under a larger umbrella organization (for example, local chapters of national or global nonprofits), or when donating to a specific fundraising page or campaign — such as an individual raising money for a race, charity event, or peer-to-peer fundraiser.
When to Use This Option
- You already completed your donation outside of Millie
- The nonprofit is a local chapter or cause that sits under a parent EIN
How It Works
- Log into Millie
- Navigate to “Submit Offline Donation”
- Enter the nonprofit details
- Upload proof of donation (receipt or confirmation email)
- Submit for match review
Your company administrator will review the request and approve the match if it meets program guidelines.
Important Notes
- A receipt or proof of payment is often required
- Match eligibility is reviewed after submission
- The nonprofit must be eligible under your company’s matching guidelines
- Processing times may be slightly longer than in-platform donations
- You will not see match approval status in advance (eligibility is confirmed during review)
3️⃣ Donate Directly and Match Through Double the Donation
Millie also supports matching through Double the Donation, a tool that helps identify match-eligible gifts.
This option is typically used when:
- A nonprofit integrates Double the Donation on their website
- You donate directly to a nonprofit online and are prompted to check for employer matching
If your company uses Millie for matching and you initiate a match through the website of a Double the Donation nonprofit, your request will route into Millie for review and processing. (See additional details on this integration here)
How It Works
- Donate directly through a nonprofit’s website
- Use Double the Donation to search for your employer
- Submit your match request
- The request is routed to Millie for verification and approval
